Pleasantville High School Hosts Charity Tournament

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The venue of the 3rd Annual Coaches and Teachers Against Cancer Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament has been changed to Pleasantville High School.

The charity tournament will be from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 8. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. Last year’s tournament raised about $3,300.

Teachers and coaches from Pleasantville and the surrounding school districts will form teams to represent their schools in the tournament. The teams will compete in a round-robin format with 10 minutes for each game.

After that, the teams will be seeded based on their record in the round-robin portion of the tournament. In case of a tie, officials will use head-to-head results, followed by points scored against and, lastly, a coin toss.

The winners of the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will play in a timed game and the finals will consist of one 25-point game.

Any team that registers for the event has a chance to earn a trophy, prizes donated by Michael’s Tavern in Pleasantville and, last but not least, bragging rights. Greeley is the defending champion thanks to a win against Briarcliff in last year’s tournament.

All questions can be directed to tournament organizer Joseph Racioppo, an umpire with the Westchester County Umpires Association who lost his wife to cancer last year, at .
