Scholastic awarded a total of 38 American Voices Medals, including just two from New York. Fearon earlier received six awards from the regional competition for her entries including two Gold Keys in Short Story and Humor, two Silver Keys, two Honorable Mentions and an American Voices Nomination for "Henrietta."

Nearly 320,000 original works representing 29 different categories of art and writing were submitted by students from across the country to the 2016 competition, of which only 1 percent receive national recognition. Fearon and the other top Scholastic Award winners will be recognized at the 2016 National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 2.
