Headstones Knocked Over At Pleasantville's All Souls Cemetery

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. ? Police are hunting for the vandals who knocked over and damaged dozens of headstones in All Souls Cemetery on Marble Avenue in Pleasantville.

The headstones were reportedly discovered by a parishioner early Thursday morning, then reported to police at 9:30 a.m. by a member of Holy Innocents Parish.

Police said 29 headstones throughout the cemetery had been broken or knocked over. Drinking may have played a role, police said, as eight 24-ounce Rolling Rock cans and two 24-ounce Miller High Life cans were found at the scene and entered as evidence. Police also found a carton of Lucky Strike cigarettes and empty coffee cups.

According to the report, the trail of cans led to a wooded area between the cemetery and the railroad. Police interviewed clerks at local gas stations about who may have purchased the beer, but said the stations did not sell 24-ounce Rolling Rock cans.

The incident is being treated as felony criminal mischief, and Chief Richard Love has requested assistance from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
