At around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, an officer on patrol saw a black Acura hit a fire hydrant at the intersection of Crompond Road and Old Yorktown Road in Yorktown before fleeing the scene, police said. The car was eventually stopped on Old Yorktown Road and the driver was identified as a 21-year-old Yorktown resident.
After an interview with the driver and several field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated, according to police. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and other traffic violations.
The driver was taken to police headquarters, where he was additionally charged with driving with a BAC of .08 percent or greater following a breath test. He was released on his own recognizance to a sober party, and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 7.
