WESPAC, a social justice group based in White Plains, organized a march that will start at 5 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza on the intersection of Mamaroneck Avenue and Main Street. It is routed to pass the Westchester County district office and U.S. District Courthouse.

The protestors will then reconvene at the fountains for an event featuring open mics, poetry, music and other activities, followed by a 24-hour encampment on the premises.

Nada Khader, director of WESPAC, told The Daily Voice, "The reason why it is so important for people to come out and support the march and rally is that we have a window of opportunity because congress is undecided on using military force against Syria. We need to do this march and show strong numbers of people in the streets who are against this."

Khader said the purpose of the march is to send a strong message to U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, Sen. Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand that the "majority of people are opposed to any attack on Syria."

She said she believes the main reasons people are protesting against military action have to do with morals and the economy.

"I think the top reason people are protesting, beside the moral issue that it is completely unlawful and unethical to attack a country that has not harmed us, is that there are so many economic issues," she said.

"We have broken schools, not enough jobs, not enough affordable housing. We are wasting our public treasure. People should have a voice in how we use it. We should not use it for attacks against innocent women and children."

The group, which has organized marches, rallies and other social justice activities since 1974, anticipates around 200 attendees, if not more, and encourages public participation.

"This is really going to be the people's evening. Everyone is not only welcome, but strongly encouraged to attend and participate if they agree with the cause," she said.
