Mount Pleasant Library To Close For Roof Repairs

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Mount Pleasant Library on Bedford Road will be closing on July 23 as the library begins the first phase of its roof-replacement project.

"The first piece of it involves some asbestos maintenance and the goal is to do that as quickly and efficiently as can be possibly done," said Mayor Peter Scherer.

According to the library, how long the library will remain closed will be dependent upon the weather. If the weather is dry, the library will be able to re-open the during the week of July 30. However, poor weather could delay construction and it may not re-open until the week of August 6.

During the closing of the Main Library, hours will be extended at the Branch Library at 125 Lozza Drive in Valhalla. Temporary hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Scherer said the contractor who will be working on the project may often begin work around 7 a.m. and finish at 10 p.m. He said there may be on-site lighting on the roof to assist the workers after dark.

"We know that's a frustration for people who live nearby and we apologize for that," Scherer said. "But the goal out of all of this is to get that piece of the work done as quickly as possible."

To help keep residents informed the library will maintain a blog. Residents can also call the Main Library at (914) 769-0548 as the voicemail will be updated regularly.
