Girl Scouts Hosts Operation Cookie Drop For Troops

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson’s Operation Cookie Drop’s Load Up Day will be held on Saturday, June 14, at the Westchester Police Academy (the former National Guard Armory), 2 Dana Road, Valhalla.

Cookies will be dropped off from 8-11 a.m., with packing to continue until 2 p.m. Trucks will be loaded by hundreds of Girl Scouts, adult volunteers, ROTC, local service members and other officials.

Operation Cookie Drop 2014 participated in Fleet Week and donated over 1,000 boxes to the Navy and Coast Guard.

An additional 27,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies will be shipped to the servicemen and women at the Warrior & Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston.

Since 2002, GSHH volunteer Alison Bergman has organized Operation Cookie Drop to show appreciation to servicemen and women. Operation Cookie Drop’s goal is to share a sweet taste of home for American servicemen and women deployed overseas.

As in previous years, the girls will create personal notes and hand-drawn cards to be tucked into the cases of cookies, thanking the soldiers and sailors for their service and wishing them well.

In the past, supporters such as state and county officials have stopped by to personally thank the Girl Scouts for their efforts. Last year, among others, U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey visited with the girls and added her own handwritten wish for a safe return to the side of one of the large shipping cases filled with boxes of cookies.
