PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The cause of an explosion at the Con Edison substation on Manville Road has yet to be revealed three days after the loud boom was felt and heard throughout the village.
According to Mayor Peter Scherer, an undisclosed piece of electrical equipment exploded around 6 p.m. on Saturday. The explosion resulted in a fire, which was quickly extinguished.
"Fortunately it s was of relatively short duration, but a scary moment, especially for the people in the neighborhood who had their pictures rattle off the walls," Scherer said.
Scherer said the explosion resulted in no injuries and it did not cause any power outages in the area.
"Thanks, certainly, to our Pleasantville Fire Department that was on the spot almost immediately, as well as to the Pleasantville Ambulance Corps, which was there as well," Scherer said. "Happily their service wasn't needed."
