Helen Stagliano, 88, Former Pleasantville Operator

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Helen R. Stagliano of Pleasantville died May 22. She was 88.

Born in New Rochelle to Madeline and John Eis, she was raised in Irvington and Dobbs Ferry. Stagliano graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School in 1941, earning letters in varsity sports and cheerleading.

In November of 1942, she joined New York Telephone Company as an operator. Stagliano retired from the Yonkers office in February of 1984 as a directory assistance operator.

She married Leonard Stagliano at Sacred Heart Church in Dobbs Ferry on June 16, 1946, where they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Stagliano and her husband remained communicants of the church while living in Dobbs Ferry. In recent years, she was a member of Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville.

Stagliano was an active member of the Mount Pleasant Seniors, attending the dance and exercise classes as well as the spring and winter parties. She recently lived at Atria Senior Living in Briarcliff Manor before moving to St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry.

She is survived by a daughter, Ilona and a son, Samuel, of Pleasantville. She was predeceased by a brother, John (Mary); her husband, Leonard and a son, Joseph.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Holy Innocents Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pleasantville or Briarcliff Manor Ambulance Corps. and flowers will be accepted.
