Yorktown High School Alumni is hosting a golf outing on April 14, Good Friday, to benefit the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation and Yorktown Athletic Club.

The fundraiser will take place at Putnam National Golf Course in Mahopac with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Ryan Froats, Yorktown High School Class of 2006, helped start the annual tradition which began a group of alumni decided to enjoy Good Friday by playing golf in 2011.

"We always had a blast just enjoying our day off on the golf course," Froats said.

After several years and getting more people to join, Froats decided it would be a good way raise money for a worthy cause.

Last year, Froats got in touch with Bruce Apar, who started the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation in honor of his son, who passed away in 2003. Froats previously interned at North County News when Apar was publisher.

"I used to play with Harrison at the Yorktown Athletic Club," Froats said.

This year, they are expecting close to 80 golfers and the goal is to raise more than the $2,000 that was raised in 2016.

Froats, who now lives in Manhattan, said the bond with his classmates dates back to grade school.

"It's great together with guys we've known for over 20 years," Froats said. "We can let loose and we can laugh. It's a date that everyone looks forward to every year."
