WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Does your band have what it takes to compete on stage with the best teen bands in Westchester County?
The Purple Crayon of Hastings-on-Hudson is hosting its third annual "Battle of the Teen Bands" which will draw many of the county's most prodigious young musicians ages 13-19 to a music submission competition and final "battle" on May 31.
"The Battle of the Teen Bands is such a fun, interactive event," Purple Crayon's Executve Director Sarah Silbert Hinawi said. "The performances and judge's feedback are all spontaneous and in real time, making it suspenseful and exciting beyond the typical entertainment of a live show."
Solo and group acts are invited to submit audio and/or video samples to The Purple Crayon for consideration through April 15. The top four acts will be chosen to compete in the final battle when they'll perform for an audience as well as a panel of judges including writer and producer Kwame Alexander, producer Steve Addabbo and marketing professional Barbara Prisament.
A professional audio engineer and lighting designer will transform the Purple Crayon Sanctuary into a performance space and set the stage for an evening of impressive music and a friendly competition for the title of "Best Teen Band 2014." The winning act will receive a full day of recording at The Purple Crayon as a prize.
Hastings' band Primate House won "Battle of the Teen Bands" last February, winning them the opportunity to record their music with producer Adel Hinawi, owner of the Purple Crayon.
"A few of our regular patrons have even told us this is their favorite event of the year," Silbert Hinawi said. "The teen talent (as we see every month at the open mic) is amazing. Both winners from the past two years have gone on to release recordings that have helped move them to more and bigger performing opportunities. It was a very close call last year between the two top performers. I can't wait to see what the event brings to the stage this year."
Submissions from teen musicians are accepted through April 15. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to enter or for more information.
