PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Thousands of music lovers are expected to converge upon Pleasantville on Saturday as the eighth annual Pleasantville Music Festival returns to the village.
Sol Skolnick, one of the events organizers, said about 6,500 people attended the festival last year. With high temperatures and sunny skies in the forecast, he is expecting more of the same on Saturday.
The gates to the event at Parkway Field will open at noon, and the first act will perform at 12:15 p.m. More than a dozen artists will take to three stages at the field to perform sets of ska, indie, folk, blues and more. Nationally recognized musicians such as The English Beat, Good Old War, Delta Spirit and Davy Knowles will be joined by Hudson Valley artists.
The best thing about the show is sometimes its the bands youve never heard of, said Bruce Figler, a disc jockey at 107.1 The Peak, which is sponsoring the event. Ive seen that happen countless times. You walk away blown away. And that is a testament to the fine work of (organizers Skolnick and Rich Sarfaty) and to The Peak who find these wonderful bands.
In addition to the music, the event will feature local vendors offering food, beverages, treats, crafts and more. There will also be a children's fun area with free face painting and games.
It will be just as good as it has been in some past years, but with a number of nice improvements, including some improvements to the village stage and some rearrangements of the site, Scherer said. We have more vendors and not-for-profits who have more booths than we have ever had before.
In addition to online sales, tickets can be purchased through Friday at Art of Wine, Cold Stone Creamery and Village Book Store in Pleasantville, and Noka Joe's in Katonah. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the festival at the gate on Hopper Street.
The festival is accessible to the disabled and there is no on-site parking. Free parking will be provided at Pace University entrance No. 2, and a free bus will bring people to and from Parkway Field. A free shuttle will run to and from the Pleasantville Metro-North Railroad station throughout the day, until 45 minutes after the end of the show.
Pop-up, open-sided tents and umbrellas are permitted only in designated sections in the main stage area. Stakes may not be put in the ground. Tents, furniture and umbrellas are not permitted in the Beer & Wine Garden or in the Village Stage area. No alcohol may be brought into the festival. Coolers are permitted but are subject to inspection. No dogs will be allowed on the festival site unless they are documented service animals.
