'All Systems Go' For Henckels In Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The proposed purchase of the MLA property by Zwilling J.A. Henckels is moving along before the Pleasantville’s boards without any major hurdles standing in the way, said Mayor Peter Scherer.

The building, on the corner of Marble Avenue and Castleton Street, will serve as Henckels' corporate headquarters. Scherer said the proposal is currently in front of the planning commission, where the final details are being hammered out.

"It's expected that they'll make their way through the planning commission process soon, and all systems go," Scherer said. "Hopefully, the last loose ends will be tied up and Henckels will be able to close on the building and begin the process of converting to their new facility."

The property was previously owned by the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company and has been vacant since 2001. Henckels officials reported at a previous board of trustees work session that they will keep the majority of the building as is and that only a few modifications, such as raising the roof in certain locations, will be made.

The building off Marble Avenue is a 144,000-square-foot facility that will be home to the knife company’s storage warehouse along with marketing, product development, information technology and administrative departments.

"Everything is looking great," Scherer said. "The people from Henckels have been generous and helpful in all of their interactions with us. They have also made it clear that they are happy to be moving to the village of Pleasantville and hope and expect that they will be a linchpin corporate member of our Pleasantville family."
