Rain Slows Re-Opening Of Mount Pleasant Library

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Inclement weather has slowed construction on the Mount Pleasant Library, officials said, and the building will remain closed through at least Wednesday.

The library has been closed since July 23 for the first phase of its roof-replacement project. Library Director John Fearon said in a message that the library does not have a firm re-opening date yet.

Library officials were hopeful the work could be completed as early July 30, but the roof repair project is taking longer than anticipated due to frequent storms. Fearon said the nature of the work means a very large decking area is exposed and a heavy storm could create a lot of damage. So if the forecast calls for thunderstorms, the workers don't even start that day.

During the construction, the hours have been extended at the Branch Library at 125 Lozza Drive in Valhalla. The temporary hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays will remain the same until the Main Library re-opens.

To keep residents updated, the library will maintain a blog. Residents also can call the Main Library at 914-769-0548 as the voicemail will be updated regularly.
