I could care less if it has rides or not. Clearly, the rides that are there aren't making money. The place is a run-down dump and the county should get out of the business of running it.
Sell it to the highest bidder. Who cares if they put rides there? View Comment

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Take a look at my comment back on the article about most dangerous intersections in Mount Pleasant.

It was only a matter of time before this happened in this pedestrian hostile town at this pedestrian hostile intersection.
RIP, Mr. Bondi. My condolences to the family. View Comment
The intersection of Commerce and Elwood by Gordo's. Heaven forbid anyone actually try to walk in this town. This blind corner on the way to the train station from points north is a death trap. View Comment
While I like the clock, I'd like to see the town spend some of its tax money they earn actually fixing up the town roads and improving walkability. We shouldn't have to donate extra to some third party organization just to make the town look remotely liveable.
I've commented here before and it bears repeating. I've lived here 18 years and have never seen my road paved or improved. Never. I lived in Millbrook, NY for 3 years and got my street paved twice and new curbing for drainage improved.
The clocks are all well and good but few will ever see them up close because walking to the Hawthorne train station or to the Thornwood Four Corners still means taking your life into your own hands. The sidewalks range from unwalkable to nonexistent.
Such are the perils of a single party system. The party in power doesn't have to do anything at all to keep your vote, not even providing the very least of what you pay your taxes for. I'm not a Democrat but even I see value in having contested elections. Maybe, at the very least, the roads would get paved. View Comment
It would just be nice if they paved the residential streets at all! I lived in Millbrook, NY for 3 years and they paved my dead end street twice. I've lived in Mount Pleasant for 18 years and have NEVER seen my street paved. There's literally grass growing down the middle of my street. View Comment
In Hawthorne, it's both lack of sidewalks and very poor maintenance of the ones that do exist. Just try walking to the train station from Berger Hardware and you'll see. Dirt path leading to nowhere on one side and sidewalks with utility poles in the middle of the walkway followed by a dangerous, blind, non-crosswalked intersection (across from Gordo's) on the other side.
The whole town looks as if it grew completely without a plan. It's a wonder where any of our taxes go. It certainly isn't to road maintenance. View Comment
"Patty" is a girl's name. Proper spelling if you are using the diminutive is "Paddy" as in St. Paddy's Day.

Of course, if Mount Pleasant's hamlets were pedestrian friendly, we might even consider not driving our cars so much in the first place. Seriously, this has to be the least friendly walking town I have ever lived in. View Comment
Opening shopping malls in the era of online shopping is a fool's game. You need look no further than the Palisades Center and its vast expanses of emptiness to see that. But then, Yonkers politicians have never been accused of making thoughtful and reasonable business decisions. View Comment
Sounds great. Now that that's done, where's the law that we can self-certify that we are sober while driving as well. After all, what could possibly go wrong? View Comment
It may have skewed the results a bit but clearly not in a good way. Hawthorne's own residents are giving thumbs down to the station and to the approaches on the unwalkable streets nearby. I doubt Hawthorne would have won a "Best Train Station" from anyone. View Comment
