The Panthers recently won the Section 1 Divsion II Team Championship during a meet at Edgemont High School. The title caps off a successful season for the Panthers, who went 14-1 in dual meets and won championships at tournaments at Hendrick Hudson and Ossining.

"It was a really good accomplishment," Coach Bob Bernarducci said. "We had just had a real good team effort from everyone.

Going into the sectional championship meets, Bernarducci said people were predicting either Pearl River or Putnam Valley would come on top. But with wrestlers like Lenny Balducci, Victor Perlleshi, Doug Crocitto, Greg May, Henry Cuniffe, Jayden Kammer and Carlos DeJesus, the Panthers would not be denied.

"I'm really pleased," Bernarducci said. "I have five seniors who are great leaders. They set an example both on and off the mat. They are great models."

Badlucci, at 106 lbs, and Perlleshi, at 120 lbs, are competing in the state Division II Wrestling Championships in Albany starting Friday.

Bernarducci said he was very happy when his team clinched the championship.

"I was especially happy for the kids," Bernarducci said. "They really worked hard."
