Pleasantville Girls Capture Tri-County Title

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pleasantville Panthers seventh grade girls Division A squad defeated New Castle 37-21 Sunday to win the Tri-County Basketball League championship.

“I am very proud of my team,” head coach Cathie Skopetos said. “They worked hard all season and it was exciting for them to come away with the championship.”

Carly Fanelli scored a game-high 20 points, Amanda Skopetos added 15 and a Natalie Alfieri contributed eight points as the Panthers, who placed second in the regular season, defeated Briarcliff 49-31 in Saturday’s semifinals to earn a spot in the title game.

On Sunday, Fanelli led the way with 13 points and Kristie Guttridge scored seven to lead the Panthers to the championship over New Castle.

“Greg Fleming, a former Pleasantville Dad’s Club coach who has been on the TCBL board for 15 years, was on hand to congratulate the team,” Skopetos said. “Greg informed the girls that they are the first Pleasantville team to win an “A” division championship in TCBL.”

The Pleasantville A seventh-grade players are Alfieri, Alyssa Conrad, Fanelli, Guttridge, Megan Powers, Skopetos and Julia Serret. Skylar Schneeweiss is a sixth grader.

The Pleasantville A team is coached by Skopetos and her assistants Arielle Schneeweiss and Lois Alfieri.
