Pleasantville Athletes Taking Skills to College

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Several Pleasantville High School athletes will be taking their talents to the next level in the fall. The football, baseball, softball, and diving stars excelled at PHS and will continue playing for teams from Division I to Division III.

Here is a list of Pleasantville athletes playing college next fall, courtesy of Athletic Director John Bauerlein:

Obumneme Anyichie will be playing football at Division III school Morrisville State College in Morrisville, N.Y. During his time at Pleasantville, the multi-sport athlete excelled on the wrestling mat as well as the football field, taking home the section title in his 285-pound weight class in February.

Mike Minerva will be playing football at Division III Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. The 6'2'', 250 pound Minerva spent time at offensive line and defensive end while during his three years as a varsity starter for the Panthers. He was a 2011 New York State Section-1 All-Section Honorable Mention, 2011 New York State Section-1 All-League Class B, and captained the 2011 team.

Mike Lanza will be playing baseball at Division I Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Lanza, who also excelled on the football field, was named by Pleasantville High School as the senior co-male athlete of the year with Anyichie.

Joe Chaisson will be playing baseball at Division I Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. The 6'4'' lefty starter anchored the Panthers rotation this season and threw several complete game shutouts.

Nicole Gagliardi will be playing softball at Division III Keene State College in Keene, N.H.

Casandra Schwartz will be joining the diving team at Division I Georgetown University. Schwartz was given the scholar-athlete award by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association in November.

Twin brothers Sean and John Conway will be playing football at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Sean and John also spend time volunteering with the Pleasantville Volunteer Youth Corps.

Scott Sessions will be playing golf at Division III Farmindale State College in Farmingdale, N.Y. Sessions recently won the Section-1 championship and was selected to the All-State team.
