ELMSFORD, N.Y. The Woodlands Falcons girls basketball team opened an early 15-point lead and rolled to a 46-27 victory over Pleasantville in Thursdays opening round of the Elmsford Classic basketball tournament at Alexander Hamilton High School.
These girls are going to play hard every night they step onto the court, Pleasantvilles first-year coach Myndi Hill said. That's just the type of personalities that are on this team.
Zaria Cobb had a team-high 13 points for Pleasantville, which will meet the loser of Fridays opening round game between Hamilton and Port Chester Saturday in the consolation game. Woodlands will play the winner for the tournament championship.
Imani Tilford and Shanice Perry each had a game-high 15 points for the Falcons and Nicole Brooks added eight points for the winners.
The Falcons grabbed a 31-12 halftime lead and coasted in the second half when the teams each scored 15 points.
This teams best attribute will be our defense, Hill said. "Offensively we need to continue to work every day on our fundamentals, such as passing and shooting. It's a long season and we are simply working to get better each and every day.
