New Rochelle's Ray Rice Wins Appeal, Can Now Sign With Any NFL Team

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Former New Rochelle High School star Ray Rice has won an appeal of his indefinite suspension and is now eligible to sign with any NFL team, multiple media outlets reported late Friday afternoon.

Rice was released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL in early September after a video surfaced of him striking his wife, Mount Vernon native Janay Palmer Rice, and knocking her unconscious before dragging her out of an Atlantic City hotel elevator.

Arbitrator Barbara S. Jones, a former U.S. District judge who heard Rice's appeal, ruled that Rice did not mislead or lie to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, a Bronxville resident, according to ESPN. Jones reportedly said the NFL's second suspension of Rice -- the indefinite suspension that followed an initial and controversial two-game suspension -- was "arbitrary."
