Briarcliff High School held its seventh annual NCAA Press Conference last Thursday, honoring the members of the Class of 2017 who will be taking their athletic and academic talents across the country.

“We are very proud of these young men and women,” said Dr. Nathan Heltzel, school counselor. “They really exemplify the highest moral and ethical standards that we could expect of them at Briarcliff High School.”

Jake Brown will be playing baseball and Hanna Feuer will be running cross country and track for Kenyon College in Ohio.

Kylie Elwood will be rowing for Fordham.

Ryan Gallagher will be running cross country and track for Providence.

Sophie Gelard will be running cross country and track for Binghamton.

Jake Hardy will be playing baseball for Skidmore College.

Loren Haukova will be playing tennis for Boston College.

Lucas Hoffner will be playing lacrosse for Clark University in Massachusetts.

Keaton McCann will be playing lacrosse for Union College in Schenectady.

Jordan Ricciardi will be playing women's lacrosse at the University of Richmond.

Jack Zimmerman will be running track for Penn State.

Zimmerman, who will leave Briarcliff with school records in the shot put, discus, weight throw and hammer throw, as well as a state title in the shot put, is looking forward to becoming a Nittany Lion.

“I’m excited for the future,” he said. “Penn State is a good fit for me. I wanted to go to a school where I could get a good education and be at the highest level of track.”

Riccardi is still making an impact on the lacrosse team. She scored her 100th career goal on May 17.

“They are accustomed to recognizing opportunity when it is before them and seizing it,” Heltzel said of the athletes. “They have that will to win that life is going to demand of you when you walk out of Briarcliff High School and we know you are ready and capable.”
