The school installed 420 American flags on the lawn outside Sleepy Hollow/Middle School. The installation was the brainchild of Chick Galella, who survived Pearl Harbor and Michael Galella.  The Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns donated the funds to purchase the flags.

Chick Galella, 96, visited with students to discuss the significance of Veterans Day and told stories about his service.

"I wanted to teach them about patriotism," Galella said. "When you see a veteran, walk over and shake their hand and tell them thank you."
