Pleasantville Voters Approve School Budget, Two Propositions

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Voters in Pleasantville approved the 2014-2015 budget, 740 votes to 333 votes.

Pleasantville's $47.4 million budget increased spending by 2.36 percent with a tax increase of 1.68 percent. The budget was within the state tax cap on the  tax levy, with a tax levy increase of 1.99 percent.

Louis Conte and Angela Vella ran unopposed for school board.

Voters also approved two propositions in Pleasantville. A $4 million bond for infrastructure repairs was approved 678 votes to 315 votes while a partial school tax exemption for veterans was approved 679 votes to 291 votes.

"I think the board and the administration are very happy," Board President Shane McGaffey said. "We try to listen to the community all year. We want to offer the best possible education at the lowest possible price. The voters agreed with us. It feels good."

McGaffey said the community supports that the right things are being done in Pleasantville.
