Pleasantville Schools Brace for Extreme Heat

Any Pleasantville student seeking refuge from the heat this week should read below to find out cool places in their schools. Steve Chamberlain, the Director of Buildings and Grounds for the Pleasantville Union Free School District, provided a list of the facilities where the buildings do and do not have air-conditioning.

-  Pleasantville’s elementary school, the Bedford Road School is full air-conditioned.

-  The Pleasantville Middle School is air conditioned in its computer classrooms, administrative offices and the library.

-  The Pleasantville High School is air-conditioned in the auditorium, the library/media center, the administrative office and in 11 classrooms of the 1972 section of the high school.

To mitigate the heat in the middle school and high school, teachers have closed the blinds and brought in large oscillating and drum fans to keep the classrooms cool. Additionally, in the upcoming days, if a classroom gets extremely hot, a teacher can move their class into an air-conditioned portion of the school, like the library of the middle school or the auditorium in the high school.

The Pleasantville Union Free School District has a partnership with ECS (Energy Curtailing Services) which reimburses the school district in these times of extreme usage if they can keep their kilowatt usage down. The school district will be reimbursed for the energy that they save.
