Pleasantville Rotary Distributes Smoke Detectors

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Members of the Pleasantville Rotary distributed new smoke detectors to kindergartners recently as a means to increase fire prevention awareness.

The Rotary members, who included the district's Superintendent of Schools, Mary Fox-Alter, passed out the devices during National Fire Prevention Month, which runs through October.

The initiative is part of the SAFE Homes program, a local effort begun in 1991 by Rotarian John Carey.
