Pleasantville High School 'Carousel' Cast, Crew Win Metro Awards

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The cast and crew of Pleasantville High School's production of Carousel won Metro Awards at the annual awards show, produced by Helen Hayes Youth Theatre.

Katie Bartz (Student Critic), Dr. Tom Heintzelman (Musical Direction), and James Britt, Bill Brown and Greg Nemec (Scenic Design) received awards.

This was the second consecutive win for both Katie and Dr. Heintzelman.

Carousel received 9 other nominations, including for Overall Production, Actor in a Leading Role (James McCarthy/Billy Bigelow), Featured Ensemble Member (Milton Esliker/The Starkeeper), Dance Performance, Female (Sophie Dora Tulchin/Louise Bigelow). Duet (Elena Phethean/Carrie Pipperidge & Sonya McGaffey/Julie Jordan), Chorus, Direction (Kathleen Donovan-Warren), Choreography (Annie Doss), and Costume Design. 

Additionally, stage manager Mark Damboragian was nominated for Technical Merit, which is a teacher-nominated award.

Forty-eight high schools in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Bergen counties took part in the competition.
