The students turned “Continental soldiers” underwent military-style drills, drummed, built barricades, and placed tents, according to a press release from the Pleasantville Union Free School District.

Students and teachers, joined by Bedford Road School PTA volunteers, donned authentic costumes such as tri-cornered hats and haversacks.

Bedford Road School fourth-graders have participated in the re-enactment every year for at least a decade, thanks to grants from the Living History Foundation, the school’s PTA, and the Pleasantville Fund for Learning.
