Pleasantville Board Of Ed Ready To Appoint New High School Principal

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pleasantville Board of Education is prepared to appoint a new high school principal on Tuesday at its meeting at 7:30 p.m., president of the board Shane McGaffey confirmed Monday afternoon.

McGaffey would not disclose Monday the name of the person who would take over as principal, but said there were 88 applications received for the position.

Applicants were reviewed through by a newly formed 12-person principal search committee.  The committee, made up three teachers and nine community members, set up interviews and gave feedback to the Pleasantville Board of Education, McGaffey said.

The anticipated appointment will be added to the board’s meeting agenda as an addendum, since it was not decided in time to be put on the urrent online agenda, he said.

July 31 was the last day of former principal Dawn Bartz’s two-year tenure as principal of Pleasantville High School. The Pleasantville Board of Education unanimously accepted Bartz’s resignation in an undisclosed agreement in early June. At the time, more than hundreds of residents had signed an online petition calling for a halt to the principal search and Bartz's reinstatement.
