Pace Students Go Back To School With Guangdong University

Through a relationship that was initiated in 2013, the two universities have developed a program that promotes the sharing of information, ideas and international communication.

Pace's Dr. Lixin Tao and Dr. Xiao-lei Wang originally discussed the idea of school faculty training with Vice President Du from GDUFE when he visited Pace University in May 2014.

This partnership began as a pilot program for Chinese faculty at GDUFE to come to Pace to learn more about teaching practices, specifically teaching courses in English. Yan Yao, a participant last semester, felt that “after three months of study in Pace, I deeply feel the difference of classroom and teaching methods between Pace and my university, which is very typical in China. Some professors here complain about the lack of participation in class of Chinese students. I think this lack of participation mainly comes from the differences of culture and teaching method between two countries.”

Dr. Tao states, “this is a smart investment for GDUFE and for Pace.” Not only does the integrated program save the participating Chinese students a year on their Chinese bachelor degree and Pace Master’s degree, it also provides cross-cultural connections for Pace faculty, staff and students.

Based on the success of this faculty development program, Pace and GDUFE have developed a 2+2 BS in computer science program. Dr. Tao hopes to work toward creating similar programs in other disciplines to boost Pace enrollment. “Pace University’s focus on excellence in professional education brings immediate benefits to the Chinese students.”
