PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University will offer a new Ph.D. program in mental health counseling next fall at its Pleasantville campus, the school's first Ph.D. degree and the state's first such program.
The Ph.D. program will be housed in the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences.
“Doctoral-level mental health counselors bring a depth and breadth of understanding to their work with clients as practitioners, as well as to the research of new therapeutic modalities,” said Dr. Rostyslaw Robak, chair and professor of psychology on the Pleasantville campus. “The program will enrich our graduates’ ability to work successfully with clients and to develop new ways to treat mental health conditions that have the potential to significantly advance the field of mental health counseling.”
The new program will be open to applicants with a master's degree in mental health counseling or similar fields. School officials say the program will help open leadership careers for graduates as the job sector grows by an expected 37 percent between 2010 and 2020.
