Meet Pleasantville School Board Candidate: Larry Boes

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Three candidates are running for two openings on the Pleasantville Union Free School District Board of Education in Tuesday's election.

Among them is Larry Boes, a 12-year resident of Pleasantville and the executive vice president and senior counsel for Kensington Vanguard National Land Services. Boes has two children in the district, both currently attending Bedford Road School.

Boes, who has volunteered with youth sports programs in the community for six years, said running for the board of education was the next step for him to be able to give back to the kids on a grander level.

"I care a lot of about the kids, as exhibited by the amount of time and energy I've put into the sports programs in town," Boes said. "I want to see that this district is represented in a positive and meaningful way going into the future. Not that it hasn't been in the past."

Boes said the board can benefit from having a parent of younger children on it because younger families do not always have as much of a voice in the community.

"As you can imagine there's consistently an influx of new young families every year," Boes said. "I feel like I can get them more involved in the aspects in the school district."

Boes has spent time as a youth soccer coach in the AYSO program and as head coach of under-nine and pre-kindergarten teams. He participates in the activities of the Community Scholarship Fund and is also a member of "P-Daddy 2020," a group of Pleasantville dads who have children that will graduate from the district in 2020.
