Kindergarten Circus Tops Pleasantville Schools Update

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The kindergarten circus came to town last week, as kindergartners at the Bedford Road School entertained the Pleasantville community with costumes and songs.

Third-grade students explored the world from the inside of a portable globe. Classes entered the globe through a zipper along the International Dateline in the Pacific Ocean. The BOCES-sponsored workshop enhanced the students’ knowledge of geography, the Earth and environmental science.

More than 100 fourth-grade students performed in the annual BRS spring concert. Second-graders and Mrs. Pugliese’s high school science students worked together to make ice cream, with emphasis on the chemistry behind its creation.

At the middle school, members of the 5/6 and 7/8 Math Olympiad teams were recognized for their achievements with awards based on the approximately 120,000 students worldwide who participated in the program this year.

In Division M (grades seven and eight) — Trophy, Top Team Scorer: Abhaya Ravikumar; Silver Pin, Top 10 percent of all Math Olympians: Abhaya Ravikumar; Patch, Top 25 percent of all Math Olympians: Riik Acharya.

In Division E (grades five and six) — Trophy, Top Team Scorer: Emily Kalt; Silver Pin, Top 10 percent of all Math Olympians: Emily Kalt, Weston Coleman; Patch, Top 20 percent of all Math Olympians: Brienna Ahmetaj, Ryan Challice, Elliot Kalt, Jonathan Pellon, Griffin Senyek, Nicholas Wiebke; Patch, Top 25 percent of all Math Olympians: Hayley Piccolino, Anton Tarvo, Charlotte Ward.

The PTA Cultural Arts Committee brought in Nego Gato, an Afro-Brazilian music and dance ensemble, for the fifth grade.

Eighth-grade physical science students created ice cream using plastic bags, ice and salt — without the use of a conventional ice cream maker or freezer. 

Sixth-graders are fully engaged in an in-depth study of ancient Greek mythology as part of an interdisciplinary unit in Social Studies. 

Seventy-one students were recognized for outstanding achievement in a wide variety of curricular and extracurricular areas at the annual Middle School Grade 8 Awards Ceremony.

At the high school, the Spring Concert Part II attracted another full house.

Parents, friends, teachers and community members gathered at the high school’s front circle to photograph and send off senior prom attendees, who posed for the group photo on the front steps before boarding buses to the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club.
