The free event features book signings, musical entertainment and activities all centered around literature for children and teens. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 outside Bell Middle School, 50 Senter Street, and the Great Lawn of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, 191 S. Greeley Ave.
In the event of rain, activities move inside the school, organizers said. Authors and illustrators scheduled to appear come from a variety of genres and reading levels
They include "Pinkalicious" author Victoria Kann, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" illustrator Ron Barrett, "Max and Ruby" author/illustrator Rosemary Wells, "Zack Files" series author Dan Greenburg and "Bad Kitty" series author Nick Bruel. For a complete list, visit the website.
The event also includes "meet and greets" with authors and illustrators and book readings by James Howe, Heidi Stemple, Jane Yolen, Sujean Rim and Rita Williams-Garcia.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Mike Risko Band, and there will also be STEM activities, airbrush tatoos, craft activities, costumed characters and gift giveways, organizers said. There will also be food available for purchase from local restaurants, and plenty of books for sale.
To raise local awareness of the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival, Hall of Scoops will offer a new ice cream flavor in the month of September, Biscuit’s Birthday Bash, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the book character Biscuit. There will also be raffle tickets from the seventh annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale to benefit Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry mission to end childhood hunger.
