Wagner, in an interview with Daily Voice in his office in Croton-On-Hudson, said he was concerned about the pipeline going right through a school playground in Cortlandt where his daughter plays.

"We're talking about a huge disruption to our community," Wagner said. "We're talking about the taking of property for a private company. That's not what Northern Westchester is all about.

If elected, Wagner said he would partner with legislative leaders to make the case that the pipeline is wrong for the area.

"This pipeline would go right under Indian Point," Wagner said. "It would be the first pipeline of this size to go under a nuclear facility. That's something we need to examine."

Wagner said his opposition to the pipeline is one of the key differences between himself and Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy, who is running on the Republican ticket.

"I've been strong in speaking out against this issue," Wagner said.

The 40th Senate district covers Mount Kisco, New Castle, Pleasantville, Mount Pleasant, Yorktown, Cortlandt, Peekskill, Lewisboro, North Salem, Pound Ridge and parts of Putnam and Dutchess counties.
