"This will allow us to offer a lot of information on different platforms and allow us to send that information in and out of the village," Board of Trustees member Colleen Griffin Wagner said.
The new design will have more interactive features that will allow residents to handle village business online instead of in person, Griffin Wagner said. The new site will also be better equipped to relay village information to residents.
The village will remain in its contract with the host of its website, Virtual Towns & Schools, and will be able to redesign under that contract. This plan offered a cost-savings over switching companies, Mayor Peter Scherer said.
"They offer a variety of cost-effective programs," Scherer said. "In a perfect world, if money were no option, we might strike out on our own."
The redesign of the outdated website is long overdue, he said.
"It's been known that we needed to redesign it," Scherer said. "It's good to see it done."
The Board of Trustees passed a resolution last week to do the redesign, although no timeline has been set for when it will be completed. The next step before unveiling the site to the public is to train all the department heads on the site, Scherer said.
In February, it was reported that the village announced it will offer an emergency alert email and text system to residents through its website that can send notifications in a natural disaster or emergency.
