The Democrats picked the state senator over County Legislator Ken Jenkins and David Spano to challenge County Executive Rob Astorino, who lives in Mount Pleasant. Astorino is running for his third term on the Republican ticket.

Latimer was the overwhelming choice of the committee, Bruce Campbell, vice chair of the Mount Pleasant Democratic Committee said. Latimer has the combination of policy insight, progressive agenda and campaign skills to win at the polls and to be a first-rate county executive, the committee said.

“George knows Westchester, he knows its people and its government. He has a great track record of sound fiscal management and he knows how to get things done” said Committee Chair Wayne McPartland.

The Democratic County Convention will be held on May 10.
