VALHALLA, N.Y. – “Can you hear me now?” may soon be a phrase of the past for Mount Pleasant residents, as the Town Board will consider the installation of a cell tower in Pleasantville to improve service.

“This is really a need for all wireless service providers in this area,” said Robert Gaudioso, a lawyer representing the cell tower company.

The proposed cell tower would be near the corner of Bear Ridge Road and Watch Hill Road in Pleasantville. Homeland Towers, a wireless infrastructure company based in Danbury, Conn., made an initial presentation to the Mount Pleasant Town Board at its regular meeting Tuesday evening in Valhalla.

Under the current plan, the tower would stand about 110 feet tall and would resemble a tree in an effort to look inconspicuous in the residential area. Gaudioso said the tower would be protected on all sides by a secure fence and trees in the surrounding area would remain to further shield the structure.

Gaudioso said that with the help of Homeland owner Manny Vicente, the company is already working with cellular service providers to use the tower.

“Verizon Wireless has already stated that they are onboard with this project,” Gaudioso said. He added that the tower could support five wireless service providers.

Town Supervisor Joan Maybury said the cell tower could benefit residents and municipalities as well.

“This could be something that helps out our police and some of our emergency services,” Maybury said. “We look forward to the public hearing on this matter.”

The Town Board voted Tuesday to schedule a public hearing for the cell tower at its Aug. 14 meeting at 8 p.m. at Town Hall in Valhalla. Residents are invited to the hearing to voice their concerns or ask questions about the project.
