Westchester County Board of Legislators Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) said she regretted comparing Rob Astorino to a Nazi in a private email that was made public.

Borgia was criticizing Astorino for vetoing the Immigration Protection Act because he said it would make Westchester a "sanctuary county," that could lose federal funding. Borgia was one of the legislators who voted for the act.

“It’s the classic `Big Lie’ technique. All clever Nazis use it,” Borgia said in an Aug. 16 email obtained by the New York Post.

Borgia said name calling has no place amongst public officials.

"I regret using provocative language in a personal email about the rhetoric used by the County Executive surrounding his veto of the Immigrant Protection Act," said Borgia. whose District 9 includes Briarcliff, Croton parts of Cortlandt and the City of Peekskill, as well as Ossining.

Astorino attended a rally Wednesday outside the Westchester County Office Building protesting Borgia's remarks.

"There's a lot of this stuff going on nationally, and we can't let that kind of incivility come here to Westchester,” Astorino told News12.
