GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Greenburgh, Mount Pleasant) requested the New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner form an independent task force, including a mix of experts and motorist organizations, to evaluate the configuration and signage at the entranceways and exits of Westchester’s parkways.

“There has been a spate of wrong-way drivers and there still are oversized commercial vehicles on our Westchester parkways,”  Abinanti wrote in a letter. “We need a concerted effort to deter wrong-way drivers and trucks from entering our Westchester parkways.”

Abinanti noted in his letter to the Transportation Commissioner that the configuration of some parkway entrances and exits is confusing and that signage is either not helpful or non-existent.

He also recognized that sometimes wrong-way drivers are impaired drivers and the Department of Transportation must do everything to protect innocent drivers.
