PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- As 2012 draws to an end, The Mount Pleasant Daily Voice is looking back at some of the top stories of the year .
An attendant at a Pleasantville gas station quickly went from being the victim of a crime to being a suspect as Pleasantville police officers arrested Wasim Ali on charges of grand larceny and falsely reporting an incident.
Ali, 59, of Pleasantville, first reported to Pleasantville police on Sept. 4 that he was robbed at knife point while working at Century Gas Station on Pleasantville Road and was forced to give two men $1,380 in cash from the register.
Police said Ali gave limited descriptions of the suspects.
The next day, Pleasantville police officers said that they determined that the story was fabricated after an investigation and that Ali made the story up to steal the cash himself.
Ali was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor and fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Ali's court case is still pending and he is scheduled to appear again in Pleasantville Village Court on Jan. 8.
