Several Injured In Wrong-Way Crash On Hutchinson Parkway

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A woman from Pelham is expected to be charged with drinking and driving after being involved in a wrong-way crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway that injured no less than five people.

Westchester County police said that charges were pending against a 42-year-old woman from Pelham - whose name has not been released - who was involved in an accident on the parkway in New Rochelle overnight.

According to police spokesman Kieran O’Leary, at approximately 10:40 on Tuesday night, a woman was driving her Honda Accord northbound in the southbound lanes of the Hutchinson River Parkway. She proceeded to collide with three other vehicles south of Weaver Street in New Rochelle.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was seriously injured after striking another motorist, and both were transported to Jacobi Medical Center. The injuries were described as “serious, but not life-threatening.”

Two other drivers were transported to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle. A third person refused medical attention at the scene of the accident.

Police said that it is expected the wrong-way driver will be charged with DWI at the hospital on Wednesday. Additional charges are possible. A booking photo was not immediately available until the suspect is officially charged at police headquarters.
