Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale announced Wednesday that Raymond Velez, 42, was arrested for his role in breaking into a Bronxville home on March 30 and stealing laptop computers and jewelry.
According to police, shortly after 2:30 p.m. on March 30, a 16-year-old Bronxville student returning home from classes saw a male fleeing from a Park Avenue home with a “black bag overflowing with items.” Velez then hopped into what was described as “a tan four-door sedan, with a yellow New York license plate and a red brake light that extended over the top of the plate, operated by a white female with a large build.”
Video surveillance a few blocks away would show Velez fleeing, but a license plate could not be read.
After weeks of investigating, Satriale spotted the vehicle - a Buick with missing front hubcaps - in Thronwood, and was able to record a license plate number and track down Velez in the Bronx.
This isn't the first time Velez has been in trouble with authorities. According to Bronxville police, he has been arrested 18 times - consisting of 17 felony charges, including three that have been classified as a violent felony - and convicted 13 times.
Velez has been charged with a felony count of second-degree burglary and was remanded to the Westchester County Department of Corrections. A search warrant that was executed at his home in the Bronx resulted in the recovery of one of the MacBook Pro laptops he stole.
