Love has been on medical leave since a car accident in March.  The 51-year-old told the Pleasantville Village Board he had been interested in retiring, and the board came to an agreement in September, placing him on administrative leave, according to Village Administrator Patty Dwyer.

Erik Grutzner has served as acting police chief in Love's absence and will continue in the role on a provisional basis, pending passing a chief's exam.

"We're delighted we're in a position to continue with a leader in that department that has had a foundation in our village for many years and we have a high degree of confidence in," Dwyer said.

Love has been with the department for 27 years and became police chief in 2011, following the retirement of Anthony Chiarlitti.
