YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Hours after a motorist escaped death after striking a tree in the median of the Taconic Parkway in Mount Pleasant, a 71-year-old Pleasantville resident was killed in a similar single-car crash in Yorktown.

Police confirmed that at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, a man drove off an embankment on the parkway into the woods near southbound exit 13 (Underhill Avenue / Croton-on-Hudson / Yorktown Heights).

Poliice have not released the driver's name and an investigation is ongoing. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Two lanes on the Taconic Parkway were closed in the afternoon as police conducted an investigation into the crash.
