John Sanfratello was struck at 3:13 a.m. by a northbound Harlem Line train that left Grand Central at 1:56 a.m., said Marjorie Anders, spokesperson for the MTA. Emergency crews responded to the scene and Sanfratello was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, Anders said.

About 40 people were on board the train, and were transferred via a rescue train, Anders said. There was no impact on train service.

MTA police said a customer on the platform and an engineer reported seeing Sanfratello jump from the platform in front of the train.

Sanfratello graduated Pleasantville High School in 2001 and graduated from Westchester Community College in 2004.
