William J. Gambichler of Southeast drew a sentence of two to four years in state prison on a charge of burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony. The defendant pleaded guilty

At approximately 9:50 a.m. on March 18, an alert employee at a nearby business observed a vehicle drive up to the closed Brady Stannard Chevrolet dealership located at 1015 Route 22 in Southeast, Tendy said.

The witness observed Gambichler exit the vehicle, walk behind the dealership, and return a few minutes later carrying a plastic bag. Knowing that the dealership was closed, the witness immediately called the police, according to Tendy.

Gambichler, a previously convicted felon, confessed to members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office that he had in fact broken into the dealership, Tendy said.

A search of the immediate area resulted in the recovery of stolen cash register and forensic analysis later revealed Gambichler’s fingerprints on the cash register, according to Tendy.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Larry Glasser.

“If you see something, say something, so together we can continue to keep Putnam County safe," Tendy said.
