Freddy Hernandez, 44, of Yonkers was charged with second-degree assault following a confrontation around 6 p.m. on the Saw Mill north of Palmer Road between the occupants of two cars, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police Department.

During the incident, one vehicle had supposedly cut off the other at a location off the Saw Mill but the dispute ended up on the parkway. A total of seven people were in both vehicles and several became involved in a physical altercation, O'Leary said.

Hernandez is accused of striking another man in the head with a bottle, causing a laceration to his head. The victim was transported by Empress Ambulance to St. John’s Riverside Hospital, where he received stitches and was released, he added.

A second man in Hernandez’s car was taken into custody in the aftermath of the incident. He was accused at the scene of swinging a stick or small tree branch at another man. The victim ultimately declined to press charges and the second man was released without being charged.

Hernandez was held overnight at county police headquarters in Hawthorne and arraigned Sunday morning in White Plains City Court. He was released on his own recognizance and will appear at a future date in Yonkers City Court.
