NEW CASTLE, N.Y. - The New Castle Police Department is on high alert after a middle-aged man offered an 11-year-old girl a ride to school on Wednesday morning.

New Castle Police Det. Sgt. Estuardo Pazmino said early Wednesday afternoon that the department had received a report of an incident in which a man allegedly attempted to lure a child into his SUV in Chappaqua.

According to police, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the girl, who was waiting for her school bus, was approached on Roaring Brook Road by a man in a black SUV with tinted windows. The man stopped, told her that he thought she missed her bus and offered her a ride to school.

The girl declined the ride and the man sped off. The suspect has been described as a white male in his 40s or 50s with dirty blonde hair that is potentially graying. He also had facial hair on his chin.

The New Castle Police Department announced that it is currently working with the Chappaqua School District as detectives follow up on the incident. They have also “notified all surrounding agencies” of the attempted luring claim.

Following Wednesday morning’s incident, Dan McCann, the interim Chappaqua Central School District Superintendent of Schools offered advice to parents about what to tell their children regarding “stranger danger.”

“It’s important to remind your child(ren) that they are very safe. The grownups in their lives at home, at school and in their community are there to keep them safe. Trusted grownups are your parents, family members, teachers, police officers, doctors and nurses.”

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact investigators at the New Castle Police Department at (914) 238-4422.
