Chelsea A. Garber was driving 70 mph in a 40 mph zone, when two police officers conducting a traffic stop saw her traveling east on Route 35, police said. According to police, her car passed within three or four feet of one of the officers, who was standing by the patrol cars. Both cars had their emergency lights flashing, police said.

One of the officers pursued Garber and pulled her over in the vicinity of Mt. Holly Road, police said. The officer smelled an odor of alcohol on her breath, police said. Garber allegedly told police she was driving a friend home.

Garber failed field sobriety tests and refused a pre-screening test at the scene, according to police. She was taken to the Bedford Police station, where she refused another blood alcohol level test, police said.

When she arrived at headquarters, officers determined that Garber received a prior charge of driving while intoxicated within the last 10 years, police said.  The misdemeanor DWI charge was upgraded to a felony.

Garber was charged with felony DWI; speeding, an infraction; refusal of a pre-screening test, an infraction, and following a motor vehicle too closely, an infraction. She was released on $200 bail and will return to the Town of Bedford Court on Feb. 7.
