BEDFORD, N.Y. – Vito Mossa of Bedford died Nov. 23 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. He was 100.

He was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy, to Nicola and Rosa Mossa. He emigrated from Italy to Canada with his wife, Maria, and daughter in 1951. He moved to the United States in 1960.

Mossa lived the rest of his life in New York, first in Manhattan, then the Bronx, Pleasantville and Bedford. At different times, he owned and operated several businesses with his wife, daughter and son-in-law, including a butcher shop in Toronto and an Italian grocery in the Bronx.

Mossa's greatest passions were gardening, keeping up on current events, attending church and doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Rose Racanelli of Bedford; four grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by his wife and a son-in-law, Martino Racanelli.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Patrick in Armonk. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
